musings on life and death

I haven’t posted in a very long time, but I have something to share. I have spent time reading and re-reading over this poem - and every time, I come away reassured about my existence, but deeply challenged by the very thought of it. I wonder what others take from this?

CONVERSATION

God and I in space alone
and nobody else in view.
“And where are the people, O Lord,” I said,
“the earth below and the sky o’er head
and the dead whom once I knew?”

“That was a dream,” God smiled and said,
“A dream that seemed to be true.
There were no people, living or dead,
there was no earth, and no sky o’er head;
there was only Myself — in you.”

“Why do I feel no fear,” I asked,
“meeting You here this way?
For I have sinned I know full well—
and is there heaven, and is there hell,
and is this the Judgment Day?”

“Nay, those were but dreams,”
the Great God said,
“Dreams that have ceased to be.
There are no such things as fear or sin;
there is no you — you never have been—
there is nothing at all
but Me.”

my top films of 2011

I’ve decided that now that I’ve seen most of the films I’ve wanted to see from 2011, I might as well make my Top 5 list - from a year steeped in old Hollywood and cinematic nostalgia.

  1. The Tree Of Life
  2. The Artist
  3. Midnight In Paris
  4. Hugo
  5. Drive

The list order is really up for constant and continuous scrutiny, but not subject to change because I don’t really have the patience to scrounge around for minor details that will set these cinematic gems apart.

One day when I have the patience, I’ll write reviews for each. However, if you’re looking for a really quick recommendation…

  • The Tree Of Life could be the most beautiful film I’ve ever seen - the term beautiful used here in its truest, purest sense. But seriously - love it or hate it.
  • The Artist was the most entertaining, touching and daring shout-outs to silent cinema - and an innovative one at that.
  • Midnight In Paris spoke to my inner artist - writing, love of the arts, nighttime walks through Paris in the rain…

I still really need to see “A Separation”…but until I do…enjoy.

I haven’t been posting for a while now, but sometimes it takes a tragedy of this magnitude to cause shockwaves across the musical globe. I’ve written numerous blog posts about my respect for Amy, whom I consider my muse, and I truly regret that a talented, shining light of her calibre has…
